Lesley Hornby, born on the 19th September 1949 in Neasden, London, at 16 became the first prominent British teenage model. The 5’6” model was known under the name of Twiggy. Her large eyes, long eyelashes, thin build and short hair became iconic. The newspaper ‘The Daily Express’ called her “The Face of 1966” as she was voted best British woman of that year. By 1967 her fame had spread worldwide.
